Why Should I Enroll in this E-Course?

This E-course provides attendees with unlimited access to this PD for 30 days. This takes sustained professional development to the highest level.

Research

Numerous studies indicate the adverse impact that poverty can have on the social well-being, physical health, and mental health of students. These studies also confirm several negative outcomes associated with poverty, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences (Baez et al., 2019; Felitti et al., 1998; Larkin, Felitti, & Anda, 2014). Yet, when it comes to educating impoverished youth, the field of education seems to lack the sensitivity and compassion that is often a by-product of awareness. If anyone needs to understand the impact of poverty as a traumatic experience, it is educators. According to Klein (2015), approximately half of all students in America attend school in “high poverty” districts. Therefore, every educator in America needs to understand research-based approaches for supporting students impacted by poverty.

How is the course structured?

With 30 days of unlimited access to this presentation, attendees will have more than enough time to dive deep into the research about the adverse impact of poverty on student behavior and achievement. Through a series of (25) self-paced lectures, averaging less than five minutes per lecture, attendees will review the latest research on poverty’s detrimental impact on the whole child.

This online course is formatted to be both digestible and robust. All who enroll will grasp a more complete understanding of the poverty, the chronic stress and trauma associated with it, and its negative impact on student behavior and achievement.

How will learning be assessed?

Attendees will have an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned via formative assessments embedded into the course. Each quiz assesses the attendees' comprehension of the concepts discussed in the lectures. At the conclusion of this course, attendees will also have an opportunity to complete a brief survey to indicate the effectiveness of this course.
