What is FLARE?
FLARE is a Financial Literacy and Reading Enrichment (FLARE) program developed by Purpose Pushers LLC to introduce elementary students to basic principles of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership through language arts. The FLARE program utilizes a holistic approach to teaching and learning built on (3) pillars which consist of student empowerment, teacher development, and family engagement.
By focusing on the (3) essential pillars of Flare, educators and families will partner to administer the FLARE Curriculum to develop students’ skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Additionally, educators and families will employ the FLARE Instructional Model and lesson plan template.
What skills will students develop in the FLARE program?
Students will develop cross-curricular skills in reading and math, while developing entrepreneurial awareness and financial literacy skills based on CTE course competencies. Students will perform tasks associated with Personal Finance, Business Marketing, and Entrepreneur Infusion.
Are lesson plans provided for educators?
Yes, the FLARE Curriculum gives educators access to over 4-weeks of pre-designed lesson plans that empower teachers to engage elementary students in financial literacy and language arts. In addition to pre-designed lesson plans, educators gain access to FLARE videos, FLARE flash cards for students and families, and weekly instructional coaching focused on culturally relevant teaching strategies and curriculum alignment.

Jahkari “JT” Taylor is an award-winning educator, researcher, instructional coach, author, entrepreneur, and highly-sought after speaker. He has presented across the nation at K-12 schools, colleges/universities, and professional conferences. Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards including the Iota Phi Lambda Emerald Educator Award, Teacher of the Year for Oscar Smith High School, and Overall City-Wide Teacher of the Year for Chesapeake Public Schools. In 2019, JT was selected as an ASCD Emerging Leader for the 2019 cohort.
